Should I Make A Will?
Even if you think you may not have many possessions making a Will is very important.
- A Will gives effect to your wishes on death.
- If you die without a Will there are statutory laws which specify how your money, property and possessions should be divided between your spouse and blood relatives. These laws may not be to your wishes and your family and friends may not receive what you wanted them to inherit.
- Unmarried partners cannot inherit from each other unless there is a written Will.
If you do have a Will you should review it regularly as your personal circumstances change. For example, if you marry after making a Will your marriage automatically cancels your Will. If you have separated it is likely that you would want to alter your Will. You may simply change your mind on who you would like to give your estate to, this could be one person, a group of people or even a charity.
